Meeting underlines ambition for strong UK-Bangladesh relationship
The President of Bangladesh, Md. Zillur Rahman, met with the Minister without Portfolio Baroness Warsi on 23 June 2010.

The President of Bangladesh, Md. Zillur Rahman, met with the Minister without Portfolio Baroness Warsi and was told of the UK government’s hopes for a stronger relationship with Bangladesh.

Baroness Warsi, the first Cabinet Minister who is Muslim by faith, expressed to President Rahman the desire to see relations between UK and Bangladesh further strengthened and developed in the future.

Baroness Warsi said:

It was genuine pleasure to meet with President Rahman on behalf of the new government to welcome him to the UK, and to underline the commitment to work with the Bangladeshi government. The existing and strong ties between Britain and Bangladesh remain a significant priority to the UK.

The UK government is the largest single country grant donor to Bangladesh. The UK is also one of the largest investors in Bangladesh with approximately £1.5 billion investment projects to date.
