The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has appointed Catherine Doran as a non-executive director to the Department.

Catherine Doran is Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Royal Mail Group. She is a Non-Executive Director for BQF and also a member of the CIO Board for eSkills UK.

Catherine has over 30 years of experience of working in Information Technology in a number of different sectors. Prior to Royal Mail she was CIO for Network Rail, BT Retail and Capital One (Europe).

The appointment of new non-executive directors was one of a number of changes announced by the Government in May 2010 to ensure that expertise from outside Government continues to help departments become more business-like.

The Supervisory Board is chaired by the Secretary of State and meets regularly, bringing together ministers, senior officials and non-executive directors. The non-executives will provide advice; supporting, as well as challenging, the Ministerial and management teams on issues such as performance, the operational or delivery implications of policy proposals, and on the effective management of the Department.

Notes

Catherine Doran joins Iain Ferguson, Sir Tony Hawkhead and Paul Rew as the non-executive directors on Defra’s Supervisory Board.
