Richard Deverell has been appointed as the Director at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew by the Kew Board of Trustees.
The appointment will run from mid-September 2012. This is a full time, permanent position and Mr Deverell will receive a remuneration of £140,000 per year.
This appointment has been made in line with best practice principles of open and external competition. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity to be made public. No political activity has been declared by Mr Deverell.
The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body created under the National Heritage Act 1983, sponsored by Defra and which operates under a Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees comprises a Chairman and 11 members.
Biography
Richard Deverell joins Kew after nearly 20 years at the BBC where he ran the news and sport websites and was responsible for CBBC and CBeebies. He was also the Chief Operating Officer** **for BBC North and contributed to the creation of the BBC’s Media City in Salford.
Richard Deverell was previously on the Board of Trustees at Kew between 2003 and 2009 during which time he chaired the Board Audit Committee.
