Defence Secretary supports Ebola medal
The Prime Minister has announced a new medal to recognise the bravery and hard work of people who have helped to stop the spread of Ebola.

Today saw David Cameron announce details of the Ebola medal, which will pay tribute to the bravery and selflessness of civilian and military personnel who took on great personal risk to support the UK government’s response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

Details of the announcement can be found here.

UK Secretary of State for Defence, Michael Fallon, said:

What members of the UK military are doing in Sierra Leone, alongside Whitehall colleagues and NGO partners, is unique – they have, and continue to help halt the spread of this deadly virus.

At its peak, the deployment of personnel to Sierra Leone was the largest UK military commitment. Our Armed Forces played a significant, vital role in helping to get the number of new Ebola cases down from 500 to single figures, and while we’re not seeing zero cases yet we remain dedicated to that task.

It is therefore right that we recognise those brave men and women for their selfless service in West Africa.
