It is with great sorrow that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of Private Jamie Lee Sawyer who died whilst deployed on a United Nations Peace Keeping Tour in Cyprus on Thu 12th March 2015.
The soldiers of The 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment Battlegroup are serving operationally with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, and are based in the capital city Nicosia. Pte Jamie Sawyer was a Royal Logistic Corps Chef attached to the 2 Mercian Battle Group. While he was conducting Adventure Training in the Mediterranean Sea he was involved in a tragic and fatal canoeing accident.
