The Queen has been pleased to appoint Mr David Fursdon DL as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Devon to succeed Sir Eric Dancer when he retires on 17 April 2015.
Biographical Notes
David Fursdon’s career has encompassed the Gurkha Rifles, the civil service, teaching, surveying and farming. He chaired the Devon Country Land and Business Association (CLA) before becoming National CLA President. He chaired the Devon Tourism Awards for the last 2 years having previously served on the regional Tourist Board and chaired the NSPCC Full Stop Appeal in Devon. He chaired the SW Board for the 2012 Games (having represented Devon at cricket in the past) and runs the SW Rural and Farming Network. He is President of Devon Young Farmers. He is a Crown Estate Commissioner and, as High Sheriff of Devon, made disaffected young people a particular focus of his shrieval year.
Mr Fursdon lives in Mid-Devon with his wife Catriona. They have 3 sons and 2 grandchildren.
