Lord-Lieutenant for Wigtown: John Alexander Ross
John Alexander Ross is appointed as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for South Yorkshire.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint John Alexander Ross CBE DL as Lord-Lieutenant for Wigtown to succeed the late Mrs Marion Teresa Brewis CVO, who retired on 5 September 2014.

Biographical Notes

John Ross is senior partner in the family farming business. A former President of the National Farmers Union of Scotland, he has, at various times, been a Director of Quality Meat Scotland, Moredun Research Institute and the NFU Mutual Insurance Society.

He has served as Chairman of several associations and organisations; Scotch Quality Beef and Lamb Association, Dumfries and Galloway Health Board, Moredun Research Institute, NHS Dumfries and Galloway and the Moredun Foundation. He was awarded a CBE in 1994, and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant (DL) in 2009 and Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Wigtown in 2014.
