I know that friends, families and neighbours will be coming together to celebrate the ‘new day’ and the start of spring.
To those communities in Britain celebrating this age-old festival, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do for our country - from public service, charitable work, business and education - you make an enormous contribution to the UK.
This time is also an opportunity to look forward to the year ahead.
And in the spirit of Nowruz, I send my warmest wishes to the people of Iran.
President Rouhani and I met at the UN last September - the first meeting between the leaders of both our countries in over 30 years. This was a significant moment and, though we acknowledged our past and current differences, we also agreed that we should seek to progressively improve our bilateral relationship for the benefit of both countries, and both of our peoples. I believe this year holds great potential for us to make progress if we grasp the opportunities in front of us.
Wherever you are in the world celebrating Nowruz, I wish you all a very happy and peaceful New Year.
