Number 10 Press Briefing - 19 Oct Morning
The Prime Minister's Spokesman answered questions on energy tariffs, Rwanda aid, Leveson and MP's expenses.

Energy

Addressing questions on energy tariffs and how Ofgem’s proposals complemented the Government’s proposals in the forthcoming Energy Bill, the PMS said that the Government welcomed the announcement from Ofgem and had been working with them for some time. The regulator would make bills more simple and transparent for consumers, which complemented the measures the Government were proposing; legislating to ensure customers get the lowest tariff. Ofgem and the Government had the same agenda, which was to make energy bills fairer.

Rwanda

Outlining the Government’s stance on aid going to Rwanda, the PMS said that aid was clearly an issue for the Department for International Development, and the Development Secretary would look extremely closely at the spending on Rwanda in December.

MP’s Expenses

Responding to questions on MPs renting property to each other, the PMS said that the PM was clearly committed to transparency, but that it was a matter for IPSA.

Leveson

Asked about when the PM would respond to Chris Bryant on the Leveson Inquiry, the PMS said that the PM would provide a response in due course in line with Parliamentary process.
