Europe, boundary changes, committees, Andrew Mitchell were discussed at this press briefing.

Europe

The PMS answered questions on European integration, and said that attempts to resolve the Eurozone crisis were welcome and the PM has said that further integration between countries in the Eurozone was inevitable.

Boundary changes

Addressing questions about proposed boundary changes, the PMS said that the policy was in the Coalition Agreement and the vote would go ahead. Changes would bring about savings of £14m per year.

Committees

When questioned over the PM’s thoughts towards the work of the committee on standards in public life and the committee for public appointments, the PMS said that it was not for Government to comment on the existence of Parliamentary committees.

Andrew Mitchell

Setting out the PM’s position in response to queries about police morale after the incident involving Andrew Mitchell, the PMS said that the PM’s position had been very clear. He believed what Andrew Mitchell did was wrong. Andrew Mitchell had apologised and his apology had been accepted by the police officer in question.
