Peerage for Sir Mervyn King
A peerage of the United Kingdom for Life is conferred on Sir Mervyn King.

The Queen has been pleased to confer a peerage of the United Kingdom for Life on Sir Mervyn King GBE FBA upon his retirement as Governor of the Bank of England.

Notes for editors

  1. Sir Mervyn King was appointed Governor of the Bank of England in 2003. He was previously Deputy Governor from 1998 to 2003, and Chief Economist and Executive Director from 1991.
  2. The Prime Minister retains the right to nominate up to ten people for Life Peerages each Parliament. These are awarded to people who have given significant public service.
