The Prime Minister called Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan this morning to congratulate him on the LDP’s win in yesterday’s elections, securing Prime Minister Abe’s position until 2018. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening UK-Japan relations in a broad range of areas, particularly economic cooperation and defence.

The PM expressed support for further Japanese inward investment into the UK and both Prime Ministers agreed to press for more progress on the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, which could be worth £5 billion a year to the UK economy.
