Press briefing: afternoon 20 May 2013
The Prime Minister's Spokesperson (PMS) answered questions on Google's tax affairs, Lord Feldman, and equal marriage.

Google tax

Asked whether the PM intended to raise Google’s tax affairs with Chief Executive Eric Schmidt at the Business Advisory Group (BAG) today, the PMS said that that PM intends to discuss his G8 tax agenda with the BAG. The PM will also discuss the UK’s progress on global tax reforms through partnership working with other EU countries. Asked what taxes were due from Google, the PMS said that our position is not to comment on individuals or individual companies but the PM was clear that all companies must pay the taxes that are due. The PM intends to take the BAG members through his very active G8 tax reform agenda.

Lord Feldman

Asked about Brian Binley’s comments in relation to Lord Feldman, the PMS said that the position remained the same; Lord Feldman had made a statement and it was supported by the PM.

Equal marriage

Asked about the PM’s view on the Labour amendment, the PMS said that the PM’s view remained that he supported Maria Miller’s position. The PM’s view is that it is the right to review civil partnerships given the concerns raised. The PMS reiterated that the Equal Marriage Bill is part of the government’s programme of legislation.
