Press briefing: afternoon 8 September 2015
The Prime Minister's Official Spokesperson answered questions about Syria and the Intelligence and Security Committee.

Syria

When asked how the government determined its approach, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesperson (PMOS) said it was guided by the threat posed to the UK, adding that the government would examine the scale of the threat and do everything possible to protect British nationals. If the government had concerns about a threat to British nationals elsewhere, it would seek to disrupt that threat, the PMOS added.

Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC)

When asked about the appointment of members of the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC), the PMOS explained how the process for appointing members of the ISC was amended by the Justice and Security Act 2013 to give Parliament a greater say in who was appointed. Once the Prime Minister had consulted the Leader of the Opposition and decided who to nominate from each House, a list would be provided and voted on via a motion in Parliament, the PMOS added.
