Tibet
Asked about the government’s stance on Tibet, the PMS said the government respects China’s sovereignty and that the position remained unchanged.
UK-China summit
Asked about what would be discussed at the summit, the PMS said while we could not pre-empt discussions, a range of key bilateral issues, including trade, the economy and security would be on the agenda. Asked about Chinese visas, the PMS said that the government was always looking at ways to underline the message that it is open for business.
Education reforms
Asked about comments in the Times on education reforms, the PMS said that the Prime Minister was focused on the government’s long term economic plan – of which education reforms and raising levels of attainment were an important part.
Iraq
Asked about what support was being offered to the Iraqi government, the PMS said that the government had taken a number of immediate actions, including offering humanitarian assistance and counter terrorism advice.
Orgreave miners’ strike
Asked about investigations into the Orgreave miners’ strike in the 1980s, the PMS said that there was an Independent Police Complaints Commission exercise underway.
