Liaison Committee
When asked about the forthcoming appearance of the Prime Minister before the House of Commons Liaison Committee, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesperson (PMOS) said the Committee was principally expected to ask the Prime Minister about issues related to devolution within the UK.
Avian influenza
When asked about a case of avian influenza in Yorkshire, the PMOS reiterated Public Health England’s assessment that the risk to public health was extremely low.
Ebola
When asked about ongoing international efforts to tackle Ebola, the PMOS said the international community – most recently at the G20 – had come together to take action, including additional funding announced at the G20 meeting in Australia whilst adding that there was more that needed to be done.
Climate change
When asked about the Green Climate Fund, the PMOS said it was part of the UK’s overall aid commitment. With regard to the 0.7% of GDP commitment, the PMOS said that in a time of difficult decisions vis-à-vis public expenditure, the government would nonetheless continue its commitment to the world’s poorest countries.
Flooding
When asked about the UK’s preparedness for winter flood risks, the PMOS said the government was taking the right approach, noting the conclusion of dredging in the rivers Parrett and Tone, and the fact that repairs to flood defences were all on track and being completed on time.
Economy
When asked about the UK economy, the PMOS said the government’s long term economic plan was working, adding that the global economic headwinds and risks that remained in the international economy underlined the need to stick to that long term economic plan.
