Statement on phone call between the Prime Minister and Prime Minister-elect of Malta, Joseph Muscat
The Prime Minister warmly congratulated Prime Minister-elect of Malta, Joseph Muscat, on his win in yesterday's election.

Prime Minister David Cameron has called the Prime Minister-elect of Malta, Joseph Muscat, to offer his congratulations following yesterday’s election results.

A Downing Street spokesperson said:

The Prime Minister warmly congratulated Prime Minister-elect of Malta, Joseph Muscat, on his win in yesterday’s election.

Both agreed that they very much valued their countries’ shared history and people-to-people ties through membership of the Commonwealth. The Prime Minister also recalled the close collaboration of the two countries during the Libya campaign.

The two men affirmed a continuation of that strong relationship and the Prime Minister said that he very much looked forward to meeting Prime Minister-elect Muscat at European Council this week.
