Sports Minister Helen Grant visited Yorkshire to hear about plans for the Tour De France Grand Depart and see how children in the county are getting inspired by the biggest cycle race in the world coming to their doorstep.

The Minister visited Benton Park School in Rawdon to see a Go-Ride session ran by British Cycling, which is using the Tour as a backdrop to encourage young people to take up cycling as a sport. She then went on to visit the Stanbury Village School, Oxenhope School and Haworth Primary School to see how children at those schools are gearing up to celebrate the Tour.

Helen Grant said:

It was great to be in Yorkshire to get an update on how plans are progressing for the Grand Depart. Its going to be a fantastic event that will showcase Yorkshire to the world, boosting local tourism and encouraging more people to get on their bikes and take up the sport. The children at Benton Park were certainly enjoying their Go Ride session with British Cycling and that is something that is being replicated at schools right across the country, as excitement builds ahead of Le Tour.
