Leading entrepreneur Sir Eric Peacock has been appointed a non-executive director of Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD), the UKs export credit agency.
Sir Eric, who was knighted in 2003 for his services to international trade, is also a non-executive director of UK Trade & Investment and previously sat on the boards of the Foreign Office and the Department for Business.
He is currently chairman of Buckley Jewellery, Stevenage Packaging, Halo International (furniture), Winmark (networks and research), Technis (business development), Baydonhill (currency trading), Boxford Group (leisure and farming) and also leads the the Peacock Foundation and Uniqueness, 2 charities that focus on disadvantaged children and young adults.
ECGD chairman Guy Beringer said:
Im delighted to welcome Eric to ECGDs board. He brings a wealth of business experience, as well as a wide knowledge of the workings of government. In particular, he will further strengthen the links between ECGD and UK Trade & Investment. I look forward to him playing an active role in the work of the board.
Sir Eric, who was born in 1944 and went to Queens University, Belfast, was previously chief executive of Hertfordshire Business Link. He said:
I am delighted to be joining ECGDs board, not just because of the departments importance to larger companies but because of the new and innovative suite of products for small and medium-sized businesses. This new support will add a competitive advantage to these smaller British businesses.
