Ukrainian people are fleeing the emergency in Ukraine. They are seeking safety and assistance in the UK and some of them are bringing their pets.
Rabies is present in Ukraine, so there is a small risk that unvaccinated pets could introduce rabies into the UK. This mainly relates to cats and dogs.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has prepared a webinar to help veterinary professionals prepare for the unlikely event of a pet presenting with rabies in the UK.
