On 19 October 2015, the Cabinet Office will host the UKs first ever Job Hack at the Digital Catapult in London.
Part of the governments commitment to ending long-term youth unemployment, the event will bring together a diverse group of talented and creative people who will collaborate to find solutions using data.
Participants will be challenged to come up with new ideas so that young people can get access to the training and employment opportunities they need to succeed.
A unique collaboration in a unique space
The Job Hack will bring together data scientists, developers, designers, solution architects, creative people, employers and young people at the Digital Catapult in London - a national centre whose role is to rapidly accelerate the UKs best digital ideas to market, creating new products, services, jobs and value for the economy.
Normally used for collaborations between startups, small and large businesses, and the research and academic communities, this unique centre will provide an inspirational, creative space in which the Job Hack teams will devise innovative solutions to one of the governments key priorities.
Challenges to make a difference
At the event, teams will be set challenges to come up with ideas to help every young person to secure the jobs they need.
They will be provided access to open government data to analyse from a range of sources on everything from academic achievement and further education choices, to labour market statistics and sector employment breakdowns.
They will be invited to use this data to generate new ideas. The solutions they come up with will then be presented for consideration to the Earn or Learn taskforce chaired by Matt Hancock, Minister for the Cabinet Office.
How you can help
We want to harness the creativity from the tech community who want to help improve things for the next generation data scientists, developers, designers, user experience specialists and solution architects, as well as people who have expertise in getting young people into work or have a background in employment.
