Compensation: Mozambique and Somalia terror attacks

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has designated two recent attacks as acts of terrorism for the purpose of theVictims of Overseas Terrorism Compensation Scheme 2012.

The following attacks have been designated as acts of terror:

  • Lido Beach, Mogadishu, Somalia on 2 August 2024
  • Macomia, Cabo Delgado Province, Northern Mozambique starting on 10 May 2024

People injured and the families of those killed in either of the attacks can apply to theCriminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) for compensation.

You may be eligible to claim if you have been directly injured or bereaved by the incident and you are a British,EU, EEAor Swiss citizen who was ordinarily resident in the UK, member of the UK armed forces (or a close relative or family member). Other criteria also apply.

You do not need a paid representative, such as a solicitor or claims management company, to apply for compensation.
