Poster submission deadline extended to 16 September 2024.
Academics, industry partners (including small and medium-sized enterprises and non-traditional defence suppliers), and colleagues from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and across government are all invited to attend a symposium to help shape the defence landscape and prepare for the future.
The Operating in the Future Electromagnetic Environment (OFEME) symposium will be hosted by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) and supported by the Electromagnetic Environment (EME) Hub. It will provide space to network and discuss collaboration opportunities withDstlscientists to shape future thinking on how to address sensing challenges.
If you joined the 2023 Future Sensing and Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) symposium, we encourage you to join this unified event in 2024.
Dstl Future Sensing Programme Manager John said:
Operating in the future electromagnetic environment requires agile and resilient sensing that informs situational awareness across all of the operating domains, land, sea, air and space.
Our ability to exploit the breadth of the electromagnetic spectrum and fuse data across frequencies, space and time will provide advantage to UK forces.
The event will include expert speakers, panel discussions, technical presentations and interactive workshops.

Taking place from 19 to 21 November 2024 in Glasgow, this OFEME event has been extended to 3 days. You can also attend in-person or virtually.
Symposium details
This years symposium has expanded its scope, to include more content on future sensing, PNT and communications technologies.
The symposium will cover:
- shared challenges for operating within the future electromagnetic environment, emerging sensing and PNT technologies, both inside and outside of defence
- how research and development investment can be harnessed in future approaches
The symposium will feature:
- a range of keynote speakers
- technical presentations
- panel discussions
- poster sessions
- interactive workshops
- networking sessions
These activities will cover advances and implications of a variety of technical topics including:
- AI-enhanced signal processing, decision making and assurance
- Quantum sensing, timing and communications
- Future antennas
- Resilient PNT
- Enabling and exploiting on autonomous systems
- Biosensing and bioengineering
- Operating in the futureEME
- The future of sensing

Some authors will also be invited to give lightning talks. To be eligibleto presentyour poster at the symposium you must register by 5pm on 4 October 2024.
