Minister for Sport Helen Grant and UK Sport Chief Executive Liz Nicholl today welcomed a publication outlining how major sporting events can be bid for and staged in the UK.
The Gold Framework , part of the Gold Event Series programme, builds upon the success of A Stage to Inspire, which identified how to provide UK sporting events based on the nations experience of delivering the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Following the successful 2012 Games, when it comes to hosting and staging major sporting events, the UKs position is stronger than ever.
These guidelines provide a clear and definitive platform for our partners to work from, so that they can ensure their bids not only qualify, but are also staged successfully.
These events are great for our economy and they also provide the UK with a chance to take centre stage and show what wonderful hosts we are.
This revised and enhanced framework, a joint DCMS and UK Sport approach, sets out how the UK will support these Gold Events, by identifying key partnerships and stakeholders responsible for delivery.
The aim is to provide the most effective package of support available to major sporting events of any host nation around the world.
Sport is worth an estimated 34 billion a year to the UKs economy and major sporting events play a significant role in delivering continued growth.
More than 70 major international sporting events have been secured by the UK following London 2012 including more than 30 World and European Championships, showcasing Britains sporting heroes to millions and generating a substantial economic impact.
It is expected that this years Rugby World Cup will bring an additional 1billion (GVA) to the UK economy and the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships a further estimated 100million.
This week, UK Sport launched the National Lottery-funded #EveryRoadtoRio programme of sporting events, which focuses on supporting our athletes as they step up preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With more than 30 world-class sports events taking place the length and breath of the UK, it is predicted that more that 37million will be generated for host cities and regions, while over 900,000 tickets will be available to the British public.
