It has been identified that young people and disabled people are both at disproportionate risk of experiencing loneliness. However, more research is needed to understand how this group experience loneliness. To address this, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) commissioned NatCen Social Research and RSM UK Consulting to conduct research with young disabled people (aged 16-24, both those experiencing loneliness and those not) and with individuals working at organisations that support young disabled people.

This research explored the barriers and facilitators for building social connections among young disabled people and considered how government can tackle loneliness among this group.
