Revised National Networks National Policy Statement
This revised National Networks National Policy Statement (NNNPS) has been laid before Parliament (6 March 2024) and is subject to parliamentary consideration and debate.
Parliament has 21 sitting days in which to debate the revised NNNPS after which it will come into force subject to Parliamentary approval and formal designation by government.
The existing NNNPS remains in force until the revised version has been designated.
The National Networks National Policy Statement (NNNPS) sets out:
- the need for development of nationally significant road, rail and strategic rail freight interchange projects
- how applications for national network projects will be assessed
TheNNNPShas been reviewed to ensure that it remains fit for purpose in supporting the governments commitments for appropriate development of infrastructure for strategic road, rail and rail freight interchanges.

The draft revised NNNPS was subject to:
- a process of public consultation from 14 March to 6 June 2023
- parliamentary scrutiny by the Transport Select Committee, who published a report on 20 October 2023
