Renew your:
- full driving licence
- provisional driving licence
It costs 14 when you apply online.
You must renew a photocard licence every 10 years - youll receive a reminder before your current licence ends.
Youll need to apply for your first provisional licence if:
- youve never applied for a provisional licence before
- you applied for a provisional licence before 1 March 1973
Theres a different way to:
- renew your licence if youre 70 or over
- renew a 5-year bus or lorry licence
- renew a short-term medical driving licence

Who can renew online
To renew your licence online you need either:
- a driver and vehicles account
- your UK passport (or the identity document used to sign in to your UK Visas and Immigration account, if youre not a UK citizen)
If you do not have either of these, youll need to apply at a Post Office or by post.
If your name or title has changed you cannot apply online. You can only renew your licence by post.
Renew online
DVLA will use your email address to check if you have a driver and vehicles account.
Your new licence will be valid from the date your application is approved, not from the expiry date of your current licence.
