This guidance has been produced by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and representatives from the transport industry. The subject matters chosen were the areas causing the greatest industry concern.

  1. Updated the guidance in section 7.9 (skips) and the following sections of 7.11 (vehicle transporters):- Cars and light vans up to 3,500kg transported on flatbed or curtain-sided trailers- Transporting vehicles over 3,500 kg on flatbed trailers- Heavy goods vehicles- Plant equipment

  2. Updated text in section 5.1 and removed any references to the load security matrix.   5. Added guidance about XL body test reports and certificates to section 6.1 (Curtain-sided bodies and EN 12642 XL rating), which clarifies where you can get these documents.

  6. Updated the guidance at section 7.10 to make it clear that lashing straps must be placed across the strongest point of an intermediate bulk container's frame.

  7. Added more examples to the load security matrix in section 5.2, and added guidance about intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) to section 7.10.

  8. Section 7.11 'Vehicle transporters' has been updated.

  9. 'Load securing: vehicle operator guidance' has been updated.

  10. Updated load securing: vehicle operator guidance.

  11. Added information about Euroliner vehicles and trailers to section 6.
