Guidance: Broadly equivalent standards for packaging and equivalent standards for WEEE and batteries

Examples of acceptable evidence that exporters of waste batteries, packaging or waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) can use to prove that overseas sites are operating to equivalent standards as the UK.

  1. Updated the guidance for: Indonesia to add acceptable evidence for waste plastic; Malaysia to update the acceptable evidence for waste plastic; Pakistan to update the Import Policy order from 2016 to 2022 and Taiwan to add details of an approval letter under the acceptable evidence section.

  2. Edited the section on Malaysia - removed the sentence 'PVC is no longer banned as it falls under Article 18 controls'. The Malaysian government has made PVC notifiable instead of falling under the Article 18 controls.

  3. Added a new link to the waste export control tool. Made minor amendments under Canada, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Kosovo, Mexico, South Korea, Switzerland Thailand, Turkey and the USA.

  4. Under Malaysia, we have removed the sentence 'PVC is no longer prohibited as it now falls under Article 18 controls' due to the Basel amendments on the export of plastic waste.

  5. For Malaysia, we have amended the import code for plastic waste from 915 to 3915.

  6. We have made changes for the requirements of Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Ukraine. We have added Kosovo.

  7. We've added Serbia to the list of countries. We've made changes to the documents required for Hong Kong, Pakistan and Turkey. We've made updates to notes on local import controls for various countries and updated the general guidance.

  8. Changes to the documents required for Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.

  9. There are new entries for Israel and Canada and changes to Malaysia.

  10. Updated Producer Responsibility: - Examples of acceptable evidence of broadly equivalent standards for packaging and equivalent standards for WEEE now available.

  11. There are changes to the documents that can be supplied for India, Malaysia, Phillipines, Thailand and Ukraine.
