Alok Sharma, Minister for Asia and the Pacific, said:
I am pleased that the 23rd Round of the UK-China Human Rights Dialogue has taken place over the last two days. This dialogue is an important part of the UKs relationship with China. I opened the forum and senior officials discussed the full range of matters relating to human rights, including on freedom of expression and religion. The dialogue was held in a constructive and open manner. During the discussion, the UK again called for the release of lawyers and activists detained in the crackdown that began in July 2015. Promoting respect for human rights is a fundamental part of British diplomacy. I am grateful for the valuable contribution made by external experts and civil society organisations ahead of and during the dialogue.
