At the end of August Elizabeth Hambley is moving on from her role as Director General for the Commercial with Trade and International Directorate.
Sarah Goom, currently Legal Director to the Home Office, will be taking up the Director General role of the Commercial with Trade and International Directorate in September. Sarah has extensive experience across the government legal profession in prosecution, litigation and advisory roles. Sarah will also be joining GLDs Executive Team.
Sarah qualified as a barrister in 1992 and joined the Government Legal Service in 1996. She held a series of roles as a fraud prosecutor in HM Customs and Excise and the Department of Trade and Industry, before being appointed as Assistant Director at the Serious Fraud Office. Following 3 years as Legal Adviser to the Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War, Sarah held positions in the Attorneys Generals Office and GLD Litigation, and as legal director at HMRC before being appointed as legal adviser to the Home Office in 2022.
