New partnerships in diabetes, clinical psychology and public health will involve Indian and UK healthcare organisations working together in a wide range of areas including:

  • faculty and student exchange
  • research
  • innovations in providing healthcare

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), based in Pondicherry, and Healthcare UK signed a partnership agreement spanning healthcare training and research at the India launch of Healthcare UK.

The agreement will boost the opportunities for the UKs Royal Colleges, universities and training organisations to develop partnerships with one of Indias largest medical schools. JIPMER trains doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Healthcare UK was launched in Chennai during the visit to India by the UK Business Ambassador for Healthcare, Lord Kakkar, Professor of Surgery at University College London. The British and Indian delegates participated in discussions covering training and skills development, expertise exchange, technology advances and investment.

Lord Kakkar said:

The India launch of Healthcare UK is an important step, providing as it does a focal point for healthcare partnerships between UK organisations and healthcare providers in India.

Many UK healthcare organisations already work in India, such as BT Health, Brit Healthcare, Bourne Hall Clinic, BUPA and the British Medical Journal. Healthcare UK is helping many other organisations to develop their business in India.
