Joint targeted area inspections (JTAIs) include a deep dive investigation - an evaluation of children and young peoples experiences. This changes periodically to investigate different themes in detail. The current theme is child sexual exploitation, children associated with gangs and children missing from home, care or education.
Ofsted published Time to listen, a thematic report outlining findings from the 5 joint targeted area inspections, in September 2016 and an addendum to this report in November 2018.

Timeline in Annex A updated to show 10 working days notification before fieldwork. Also updated evaluative questions in the tool for tracking children's experiences in Annex B.
The previous guidance referred specifically to the sexual exploitation of children. We have redrafted the guidance to cover both sexual and criminal exploitation. The spreadsheet of additional guidance for Annex A is a new document that provides detailed information on the data request that inspectors make for these inspections.
