The Iran (Sanctions) Regulations 2023 revoke and replace the Iran (Sanctions) (Human Rights) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.

Context

This sanctions regime is aimed at encouraging the government of Iran to comply with international human rights law, respect human rights, and deter Iran from conducting hostile activity against the UK and other countries.

The Regulations impose asset freezes on those identified, and designated under the Sanctions Act, as being responsible for or involved in serious human rights violations in Iran or hostile activity by the Government of Iran.

The UK also implements a sanctions regime on Iran related to nuclear weapons.
