Details

In 2017, Bishop James Jones published a report on the experiences of the families of the 97 people killed in the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

This is the government response to his report. The response includes:

  • the government signing a charter for families bereaved through public tragedy - to be known as the Hillsborough Charter
  • introducing legislation for an organisational duty of candour for policing - part of the code of practice for ethical policing laid in Parliament on 6 December 2023

The Chief Coroner also published his response to the report on 6 December 2023.

The national police response was published on 31 January 2023.
