The Police Uplift Programme New Recruits Onboarding Survey focuses on understanding the experiences of new police officers during their first year in the role. The 2023 round of the survey found that the overall experience for new police recruits is positive with high satisfaction and strong intentions to remain within policing.

More than 8 in 10 officers are satisfied with the role and the support they receive from their line managers, and around 7 in 10 indicate the role has met or exceeded their expectations. More than 7 in 10 indicate an intention to stay until retirement. The 2023 findings are similarly positive to 2022 across these key areas but they remain less positive than the 2021 survey findings.
