Reminder: deadline to submit evidence on Freedom of Information

Independent Commission on Freedom of Information

November 19
11:35 2015

The Commission on Freedom of Information was established in July to review the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. It is considering the balance between transparency, accountability and the need for sensitive information to be protected. It is also looking at whether the Act adequately recognises the need for a safe space for government to develop and implement policy and provide frank advice to ministers.

Nothing in this process is predetermined. The Commission is an independent body and its members want to gather as much objective evidence from interested parties as possible.

The Commission launched a call for evidence on 9 October. So far, the Commission has received approximately 16,000 responses from a wide range of organisations, individuals and civil society groups. The deadline to submit evidence is midnight Friday 20 November.

The Commission will carefully consider all the evidence it receives and will use it to help formulate the final report.

Respond to the call for evidence by midnight on 20 November:
