Judicial Appointments Commission
His Majesty The King has approved the appointment of The Right Honourable Lord Justice Warby as a Judicial Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) for 3 years commencing 1 June 2023.
The JAC is an independent body that selects candidates for judicial office in courts and tribunals in England and Wales, and for some tribunals with a UK-wide jurisdiction.
JAC Commissioners are appointed, under Schedule 12(1) of the Constitutional Reform Act 2005, by His Majesty the King on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor. The appointment of The Right Honourable Lord Justice Warby was made in accordance with Regulation 10 of the Judicial Appointment Commission Regulations 2013.
On his appointment as a Judicial Commissioner, the Right Honourable Lord Justice Warby will become - in accordance with Regulation 16 of the Judicial Appointment Commission Regulations 2013 - the Vice Chairman of the Commission.
Biography
Lord Justice (Mark) Warby was called to the Bar in 1981 and specialised in media and sports law. He took silk in 2002. He served as a Recorder of the Crown Court and Deputy High Court Judge before becoming a High Court Judge in 2014. He was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2021. Prior to that he was Director of Training for the Senior Judiciary from 2018-2021 and Chair of the High Court Ju
