Important update 23 June
Following independent testing of In-shore Vessel Monitoring System (I-VMS) devices, MMO can confirm the Type Approval of two devices: Fulcrum Nemo and Succorfish SC2.
The roll-out of devices remains paused while next steps for the programme are under development.
At this time, fishers are still advised to not take any actions to purchase, remove or replace I-VMS devices.
However, grant applications to cover original installation costs are still being processed, and we encourage any fishers that have already installed a device to submit an application for funding, using the guidance below.
A full update is available on our Inshore Vessel Monitoring (I-VMS) for under-12m fishing vessels registered in England guidance webpage.

Introduction
This page provides an overview of funding available for the Inshore Vessel Monitoring System (I-VMS) scheme for English under 12m vessels and how to apply. For more information on about I-VMS devices and the installation process, please refer to our general guidance pages.
Funding for Inshore Vessel Monitoring System (I-VMS) devices
Initial costs associated with the installation of MMO type approved I-VMS devices can be reimbursed through grant funding from the European Maritime & Fisheries Fund (EMFF), to the value of 650 per vessel. The scheme provides financial support for eligible fishers to purchase and install an I-VMS device on board their vessel ahead of the introduction of new legislation that will make it a legal requirement to have an I-VMS device on board English vessels.
Timescales
I-VMS devices must be installed and operational before the introduction of the I-VMS Statutory Instrument (SI), which is not expected to come into effect until 2024.
MMO started a roll-out programme in 2022 supported by these one-off EMFF grants to cover installation costs.
While the roll-out of the I-VMS programme is paused, fishers are still advised to not take any actions to purchase, remove or replace I-VMS devices.
However, grant applications to cover the original installation costs are still being processed, and we encourage any fishers that have already installed a device to submit an application for funding, using the guidance below.
Vessels operating in Welsh & Severn and Devon IFCA waters
You need to transmit I-VMS data if you are affected by either the Welsh I-VMS rules which came into force on 15 February 2022, or the Devon and Severn IFCA mobile fishing permit byelaw.
Both authorities are working with any vessel owners impacted by the pause in the programme and fishers can contact our Support & Engagement team with any questions, by calling our dedicated helpline, open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm, on 01900 508618, or emailing ivms@marinemanagement.org.uk .
