The Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (legislation.gov.uk) retained and amended the Bass Measures 2020 as per Article 10 of Council Regulation (EU).
This means that revised measures on vessels catching European Seabass were introduced on 1 April 2023.
The bass control measures described implement measures designed to manage fishing effort to help protect and improve bass stocks.
Bass limits for 2023
The Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (legislation.gov.uk): fixed gillnet and hook and line bass limits for 2023 and annual trawls and seines bass limits to replace the limits over two consecutive months which was one of the outcomes from the annual UK/EU fishing opportunities consultations in December 2022.
Bass authorisations letters were re-issued in March 2023.
