This report presents statistics on the number of entries, late entries and certifications for GCSE, AS and A level for the November 2023 series and June 2024 series, and historical data going back to 2020.

The key headlines for entries and late entries for GCSE, AS and A level for the 2023 to 2024 academic year in England are:

  1. The number of GCSE certificates awarded has increased by 3.4%, with 5.6 million awarded in 2023 to 2024 compared to 5.4 million awarded in the 2022 to 2023 academic year.

  2. The number of AS and A level certificates awarded has increased by 1.8%, with around 871,500 awarded in 2023 to 2024 compared to around 855,700 awarded in the 2022 to 2023 academic year.

  3. The total number of GCSE component-level entries has increased by 4.4% with just under 15 million GCSE entries in 2023 to 2024 compared to around 14.6 million awarded in the 2022 to 2023 academic year.

  4. The total number of AS and A level component-level entries has increased by 2.0% with over 2.63 million AS and A level entries in 2023 to 2024 compared to around 2.58 million awarded in the 2022 to 2023 academic year.
