This series of research reviews is focused on the pre-school age range, from birth to 4 years. Its purpose is to support early years practitioners to raise the quality of early years education.

The first of these reviews examines the factors that contribute to a high-quality early education. We explore literature relating to early years education, drawing on a range of sources, including academic and policy literature.

Subsequent reviews, to be published at a later date, will explore the early years foundation stages (EYFS), 7 areas of learning.
