Planning Inspectorate
The intake is the latest in a drive to boost Inspector numbers that will strengthen the Planning Inspectorates workforce and help address a high volume of work.
In November 2014, the Planning Inspectorate undertook a recruitment campaign which resulted in over 260 applicants. In June, the first group of Inspectors from the recruitment campaign joined the Planning Inspectorate and a further two groups of around 15 Inspectors each are set to join in October and November. New Inspectors undergo a period of rigorous training delivered by experienced Inspectors before they begin work in the field. Essential to the training is learning about the inquisitorial nature of the role as well the importance of upholding the Planning Inspectorates values of fairness, openness and impartiality. As part of the induction, new Inspectors are also trained on the various aspects of the Planning Inspectorates work including local plans and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) examinations, national infrastructure casework, section 78 planning appeals casework and the various associated procedures.
Inspectors work remotely and are based across England and Wales. They come from a variety of disciplines including planning, enforcement, transport, highways, surveying, architecture, law, environment, engineering or other land use/development-related disciplines.
Twenty Planning Inspectors sought in new recruitment push
