Details

The UK strategy works towards the eventual ambition of eliminating person-to-person mpox (previously referred to as monkeypox) transmission in the UK. The strategy outlines 8 key actions that are under way to reduce harm from the virus and has been agreed between the UKs 4 public health agencies:

  • UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)
  • Public Health Scotland
  • Public Health Wales
  • Public Health Agency (Northern Ireland)

UKHSA has outlined the UKs 4 nation plan to continue reducing mpox transmission over the next 12 months. The strategy builds on the robust system-wide response so far this year and sets out the current position and the long-term goal to eliminate mpox transmission in the UK. Given the global outbreak, UK elimination is likely to take some time. The strategic goal over the next 6 to 12 months is focused on:

  • reducing harm
  • suppressing current UK transmission
  • minimising UK transmission from imported cases
  • contributing to a reduction in the global burden
