His Majestys Lord-Lieutenant Certificates of Merit awards

Nominations are now open for His Majestys Lord-Lieutenant Certificate Of Merit awards.

The awards, hosted by RFCA for Wales, recognise outstanding service by reservists and cadet force adult volunteers, and are intended to supplement the New Year and Birthday Honours lists.

Lord-Lieutenants will give out these awards at 8 ceremonies in each of the preserved counties ofWales.

New Caldicot Joint Cadet Centre

The new Joint Cadet Centre (JCC) project is the latest development in the Reserve Estate Optimisation Programme (REOP) in Wales, which aims to modernise existing cadet centres and create new, efficient facilities to benefit todays reserve forces and cadets.

It was built on the site of the old Army Cadet Force building in Mill Lane, Caldicot, which was razed to the ground to make way for the bespoke building shared by both army and air cadets in the town.

During the build, the cadets from Caldicot Army Cadet Force moved just a short distance away to Jubilee Way, taken in by the air cadets of 2012 (Caldicot) Squadron.

New report celebrates the positive impact of the cadet forces in Wales

The report, titled Getting an Edge: The Impact and Value of the Cadet Forces in Wales was carried out by Professor Simon Denny, Professor Richard Hazenberg and Dr Claire Peterson-Young of the University of Northampton.

Commissioned by the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) for Wales, the study found that participation in the cadet forces led to increased social mobility, improved educational outcomes and enhanced employability.

19 of Wales top forces-friendly employers have been recognised with a prestigious award.

Representatives from the receiving organisations were presented with the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award for 2024 at the Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay, on Wednesday 17 July.

They were also honoured guests at the 21 Gun Royal Salute to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

19 Ministry of Defence Silver ERS Award winners in Wales

Were delighted to announce that an amazing 19 organisations in Wales have achieved the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award for 2024.

The prestigious Defence Silver ERS Award recognises employers who have actively demonstrated their support for the Armed Forces community through implementing practical policies in the workplace.

The 19 winners will be invited to receive their award at a special ceremony in Cardiff on 17 July.

The event began with an address from Major General Duncan G Forbes, the Royal Navys Director of Strategy and Policy, and Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff. He gave a shout out to his old captain and mentor Brigadier Jock Fraser, who retires this summer, before fittingly highlighting his lectures theme of legacy.

The Major General discussed the broad strategic context of the Navys current work, while promising to use the occasion to tell stories, kindle relationships and rest.

12 people recognised by His Majestys Lord-Lieutenant of Gwynedd

The efforts of 12 people from across Gwynedd, including two young cadets, have been recognised by the Kings representative for the county.

In recognition of their outstanding service and devotion to duty, 7 people were awarded the Lord-Lieutenants Certificate of Merit by the Lord-Lieutenant of Gwynedd, Edmund Bailey Esq CStJ FRAgS.

The recipients were: Petty Officer Andrew Westall of Holyhead Sea Cadet Corps; Captain Michael Evans and Adult Under Officer Sharon Garland, both of Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force; Major Aled Rhys Jones and Officer Cadet Nyah Lowe, both of Wales Universities Officers Training Corps; Civilian Instructor Geoffrey (Geoff) Ward of No 2 Welsh Wing RAF Air Cadets, and Major Bernie Pagent of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Wales (Wales RFCA).

The efforts of 14 people, including 9 young cadets from across Gwent have been recognised by the Kings representative for the county.

In recognition of their outstanding service and devotion to duty, 5 people were awarded the Lord-Lieutenants Certificate of Merit by Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE CStJ in theawards ceremony at Chapman VC House, Cwmbran, on Thursday 11 April.

The 5 recipients were: Chief Petty Officer Robert Evans of HMS CAMBRIA; Staff Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Ehsan Iqbal of Gwent and Powys Army Cadet Force; Pilot Officer Sarah Louise Beach, and Warrant OfficerJoanna Holley, both of No 1 Welsh Wing RAF Air Cadets, and Major Stephen John, Schools Cadet Expansion Officer for Wales RFCA.
