As we approach the end of 2024 and the festive season, we want to take a moment to thank each of you security operatives, industry leaders, and membership associations for your unwavering dedication to keeping people safe. This time of year is especially demanding for many of you, and we recognise the critical role you play during these busy weeks.

This year was a milestone for the Security Industry Authority as we celebrated 20 years of regulation. Over the past two decades, weve been privileged to witness countless examples of bravery, professionalism, and dedication from security operatives across the UK. Many of you have gone above and beyond to protect the public, prevent harm, and even save lives. Your efforts are inspiring, and we are proud to shine a spotlight on the incredible work you do.

In September, we were named as the regulator for Martyns Law in the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill which will bring an important new public safety provision into being. This landmark legislation will have a transformative impact. As Martyns Law progresses through the House of Commons and the House of Lords in the new year, it will mark another exciting but challenging chapter for the SIA; we look forward to working with the Home Office on implementation over the next two years.

We want to express our gratitude to the membership associations for their continued partnership over the past year. Your insights and willingness to collaboratewith us and each other are vital in driving and delivering positive change. Through stakeholder forums and your conferences, we have appreciated the meaningful, honest dialogue and commitments to action. Together, we can continue to strengthen public safety and improve standards in the private security industry.

Looking ahead, mandatory refresher training for door supervisors and security guards in April will continue to ensure that all licence holders have the up-to-date skills and knowledge they need to protect the public and themselves.

As we enter the festive period, we know that many of you will be working hard in anti-social and long hours to keep people safe as they enjoy the Christmas break. We also encourage you and your employers to look after and prioritise your own well-being. Take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the holiday season with your loved ones and friends.

Thank you once again for your hard work, professionalism, and commitment to keeping the public safe. The work you do is not always easy, not always recognised but it is vital and at times life-saving. We are proud to move forward with you into a new year of opportunities and challenges.

On behalf of everyone who works at the SIA, we wish you a safe and peaceful festive sea
