This research identifies:

  • a privilege premium for non-graduates, which means men from poorer backgrounds earn 80, and women 100, a week less on average than similarly skilled non-graduate workers with wealthier parents
  • specific challenges for non-graduate women:
    • around a sixth are not using the qualifications they have and are working in low-paid jobs, such as in sales and customer services
    • a further fifth have low qualifications, are low paid, have young children and are on the margins of the jobs market
