You can give permission to the Student Loans Company (SLC) in the following ways:

Consent to share (CTS) allows SLC to talk about your account with someone you have given permission to. We wont discuss your bank details.

How to give permission

You can set this up in your online account by selecting give permission for someone to contact us on your behalf. You need to give us the following information:

  • your Customer Reference Number
  • your name and address
  • the full name of the person or organisation you want to give permission to
  • their full address, including postcode
  • their full date of birth
  • their relationship to you
  • a password, which we will ask the third party to verify. This needs to be different to your account login password.
  • the date you want this to be valid until

You can also set this up by calling or writing to SLC.

The person or organisation must be able to confirm all of these details before we can discuss your account information with them.

2. Power of Attorney

Power of Attorney (POA) is an official legal document that lets you name someone who can request or update information on your account. The POA document must contain the specific time period the nominated person can act as an attorney and the specific tasks that they can perform.

Read more about the types of Power of Attorney.

3. Deputyship order

Deputyship is when a third party is appointed to be someones deputy if they lack mental capacity. This means they cant make decisions for themselves, at the time they need to be made. They may still be able to make decisions for themselves at certain times.

How to set up Power of Attorney or a deputyship order

You can set this up by writing to SLC. You must include your certified POA or Deputyship order document along with the following information:

  • your Customer Reference Number
  • your name and address
  • the full name of the person you want to give permission to
  • their full address, including postcode
  • their full date of birth
  • their relationship to you

The person must be able to confirm all of these details before we can discuss your account information with them. There can be a maximum of two named people on your account.
