In his first annual report as President of the Supreme Court, Lord Reed charts changes to the bench during the reporting period 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020.
Lord Reed points to the Courts first sitting in Wales, which took place in the National Assembly building in Cardiff in July 2019, as one of the highlights of the year.
The Report sets out how the Supreme Court heard 81 appeals and delivered 54 judgments between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020. The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC), which is co-located with the Supreme Court and shares the Courts administration, heard 40 appeals during 2019-2020.
The report was presented to Parliament under Section 54(1) of the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. The accounts were presented to the House of Commons under Section 6(4) of the Government Resources and Accounts Act 2000.
