Details

This guide is for licensed operators only. It tells you:

  • how to cage-trap and mark badgers (Meles meles) to enable vaccination
  • which techniques you must use and which are recommended best practice

You must:

  • hold valid licences issued by Natural England, Defra or the Welsh Government before you can take and mark badgers for vaccination in England or Wales
  • follow all licence conditions
  • take all reasonable steps to ensure the licensed activities are carried out safely and humanely
  • get the landowners permission to access their land to carry out your actions

You must also act in accordance with the:

  • Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966
  • exemption provided for non-Veterinary Surgeons (lay vaccinators) by the Veterinary Surgery (Vaccination of Badgers against TB) Order 2010
